A man has been arrested following a single vehicle collision in Kessingland.
Police were called to the High Street just after 11:30pm last night, Wednesday 11 March, following reports that a van had come off the road and collided with a lamp post and several properties.
Members of the public reported that the occupants of the vehicle had then left the scene.
Police, the East of England Ambulance Service and Suffolk Fire & Rescue attended. In total, five properties were damaged with residents evacuated due to a gas leak caused as a result of the collision.
A teenage boy, who lived in one of the properties that were struck, sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and was assessed at the scene by paramedics.
Following police enquiries, officers located the driver a short distance away. A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and failing to stop or report an accident.
He was taken to hospital for assessment before being transported to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remains.
